Premier makes three-point proposal on ties with Uganda
font size

Premier Wen Jiabao said in Beijing Friday that China will encourage its business people to invest in Uganda and expand imports from the African nation.

Wen made a three-point proposal during a meeting with visiting Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who had attended the Global Conference on Scaling Up Poverty Reduction in Shanghai earlier this week.

The Chinese premier noted that his country will help Uganda with its national construction and continue to offer assistance to Uganda within its capacity. China will encourage its enterprises to invest in Uganda and strive to enlarge imports from the country, and it will also conduct human resources development cooperation with Uganda, including sending medical teams to Uganda, training Ugandan students and other professionals in China.

China appreciates the Ugandan government's adherence to the one-China policy, and is satisfied with the "fruitful cooperation" in different areas between the two countries, Wen said.

Museveni said he is glad that his China trip has had rich results. He said Wen's three-point proposal, together with the agreements signed during his visit, opened up wide prospects for boosting cooperation between the two countries.

The president said Uganda will work with China and bring the traditional friendship and cooperation to an all-round new high.

Also on the same day, Premier Wen met and exchanged views on bilateral relations with Angolan Foreign Minister Joao Bernardo de Miranda.
