Cholera kills 7 more Ugandans

Cholera killed seven people recently in Kayunga district, about 100 km from Kampala, bringing to 24 the total number of people died of the disease since it broke out in Uganda in February, the New Vision newspaper reported Saturday.

It quoted Kayunga hospital medical superintendent Ahmed Matovu as saying that three died last week in the hospital and four others died in their homes.

Matovu said the Ugandan Health Ministry has sent health workersto the area to contain the situation and the district has set up acamp to accommodate cholera suspects.

In the country's northwestern district of Nebbi, 12 people havedied out of the 258 cases since February and the disease has also killed five in Kampala since the epidemic broke out.
