Five killed, 35 injured in gas explosion in Sichuan

Five people were killed while another 35 were injured, including one badly injured, in a gas explosion in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday, local police said Sunday.

The explosion occurred at 7:45 p.m. Saturday under a crosswalk near a residential area in Luzhou City, according to the police.

Local authority and medical care workers rushed to the scene for rescue.

Investigation into the cause is continued.
