Reception marks 30th anniversary of Sino-Malaysian ties

A reception was held here Saturday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.

Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju and visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi attended reception.

China and Malaysia are good neighbors, and the friendship and political trust between them have developed over the past three decades, Huang said, adding that bilateral cooperation has made remarkable achievements in all fields.

The annual trade between the two countries has exceeded the level of 20 billion US dollars, and personnel exchanges have surpassed 1 million, while the number of the Chinese students studying in Malaysia has reached 13,000.

All these indicated that Sino-Malaysian relations have entered a new era of all-round and rapid development, he said.

According to Huang, both China and Malaysia adhere to the five principles of peaceful co-existence, and have always understood and supported each other when they face difficulties and challenges.

The development of Sino-Malaysian relations not only benefits the people of the two countries but is also conducive to world andregional peace and development, he noted.

The consensus reached between China and Malaysia during Badawi's current visit on pushing forward the strategic cooperation in anall-round way has set new guides for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Malaysia for a better tomorrow, Huang said.

Badawi said the relations between Malaysia and China have turned mature day by day since they forged diplomatic ties, and their mutually beneficial cooperation has been developing. Malaysia takes China as an important partner, and hopes to expand cooperation in agriculture, information technology, and educational.

He reaffirmed that Malaysia will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.

Badawi said fruitful results have been achieved during his visit to China, citing the friendly talks he had with Chinese leaders and several documents on cooperation the two countries signed. All this would upgrade Malaysia-China ties to a new stage,he added.

More than 800 people attended the reception.
