China sweeps golds at Singapore Open table tennisThe Chinese paddlers made a clean sweep of four gold medals in the inaugural Singapore Open table tennis tournament which concluded its four-day competitions on Sunday. Both the men's and women's singles finals became the All-Chinese affairs as Wang Liqin outwitted world champion Ma Lin 11-7,12-10, 14-16, 11-7 and 11-8 to take the men's crown, and top-ranked Zhang Yining rallied from 1-3 down to beat veteran world champion Wang Nan 3-2 for the women's title. The men's doubles went to Ma Lin and Chen Qi who beat Gao Lize and Li Jing of Chinese Hong Kong, while Guo Yue paired with Niu Jianfeng to take the women's doubles crown against Kim Hang Mi andKim Hyong Hui of DPR Korea. Singapore's No. 1 woman player Li Jia Wei failed to make the quarter final in the singles as she lost to Chinese Guo Yue 4-3. The Singapore Open, the fifth leg of the ITTF Pro Tour, has attracted 111 men players and 81 women athletes, including seven of top 10 players in both men's and women's world rankings. |
