font size

Indian External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh said here on Tuesday that Indo-Chinese ties are extremely close and there would not be much difficult in solving border issues between the two countries.

At a press conference in the afternoon, Singh said the Indian government has appointed National Security Advisor J N Dixit to beIndia's Special Representative and Dixit would meet with Chinese Special Representative Dai Bingguo "very shortly" to continue the negotiation on the border issues.

"In more than 2000 years of history, India and China had only had one conflict, and that was the Indo-Chinese border war in 1962." So "we don't visualize any difficulty" in solving the border issues with China in the future, he pointed out while answering a question raised by Xinhua correspondent.

Singh also said India's trade with China has increased sharply with trade volume reaching billions of dollars, which will also help solve the remaining bilateral issues.

Singh said he would travel to China's coastal city Qingdao on June 21 to attend the Asian Conference on Cooperation and Dialogueand expect meeting with his Chinese counterpart Li Zhaoxing.
