Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, met his Danish counterpart Christian Mejdahl on Tuesday on ways of enhancing bilateral ties.

Wu expressed hope that his first visit to Denmark would promote understanding, strengthen mutual trust, and deepen cooperation between the two countries.

China attached importance to its relationship with Denmark which was among the first European countries to establish ties with China, said Wu, who arrived here on Monday for an official good-will visit.

He said it was natural that the two countries, with different social systems and cultural values, had differences on the human rights issue and other problems.

The important thing was to reduce the differences through dialogue and constant exchanges of views, he said.

China and Denmark had no conflict of interests and could benefit each other through cooperation, he said, adding that promoting cooperation served the interests of both countries, he said.

It was necessary that the two countries tried to keep the high-level exchange of visits, expand economic cooperation and strengthen cultural contacts.

Mejdahl said Denmark and China had different social systems and faced different problems, therefore they had different ways to solve their own problems.

He said Denmark paid special attention to the economic development in China and placed high value on its relations with the country.

Denmark was the third leg of Wu's four-nation European tour which would also take him to Norway. He has already visited Russia and Bulgaria.
