Chinese university students are in an active and healthy state of mind and are eagerly pursuing better development, according to 15, 000 returned questionnaires of the 13th survey on college released by Chinese Education Ministry released on June 2.
Students' concerns include not only their self-development, but also the major plans on the development of the nation. Corruption, conflicts caused by unbalanced regional development, employment and reemployment and the farm-related problems are all focuses of young people's concern.
The survey shows, most students think that the essence of the important thought of "Three Represents" is to build the party for the public and to rule for people. 96 percent of them recognize "maintaining human foremost, establishing the conception of comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development" which was proposed by the Communist Party of China last year.
They agree with "Decision on the Several Problems in Improving Socialist Market Economy System", regard the central leadership is a down-to-earth group seeking truth, an exploitive and innovative collective, a resolute and trustworthy collective, a collective drawing close to people and loving people.
College students are concerned about the nation's reform in the political system, and many of them think that the reform is a gradual process. 95 percent of the students are optimistic and relatively optimistic about the "further enhancement of the comprehensive of national strength and China's status in the international community".
College students have strengthened their awareness of safeguarding legitimate rights had very strong aspiration for success. College evaluate themselves as having strong or relatively strong "awareness of competition", "awareness of safeguarding rights" and " ability in interpersonal communication". They think that "individual ability and self-endeavor" is needed for them to survive and develop in the society and many students choose to have "further education" after graduation.
The survey shows, most college students are satisfied and relatively satisfied with "the teachers' morality", the highest ratings among all items. However, the ratings on "teachers' innovation ability" remain low. College students have reserved attitude in the development of "reform of teaching method", "reform of the employment system for students" etc. They have quite strong aspiration for a quickening reform of higher education system.
The survey was done in the 75 higher education institutions in eight municipalities and provinces: Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hubei, Guagndong, Shaanxi, Jiangsu and Guizhou. Totally 15, 090 copies were sent out and 98 percent were effectively returned. 3, 200 students attended seminars and discussions.
