Grand celebration for D-Day landings in France

French President Jacques Chirac speaks, June 6, 2004 in Arromanches, during the International ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. More than 20 leaders from 16 countries and thousands of World War II veterans are attending the high-profile event. Tens of thousands of Allied troops against all odds stormed the Normandy beaches June 6, 1944, liberating France and speeding the defeat of Nazi Germany.
