Rescuers fighting against forest fire in Xinjiang
font size

Rescuers, including local residents, policemen and military troops, have fought against a forest fire, which occurred in a natural reserve in Altay Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Sunday.

Xiong Huiyin, vice chairman of the autonomous region rushed to Altay by plane on Monday morning and set up a headquarters for fire fighting.

Helicopters sent by the Xinjiang Military Area Command arrived in Altay on the same day but couldn't approach to the scene for poor visibility.

After 12 hours' riding, one hundred rescuers had reached to the front line, which is located in a mountainous area and obstructed by rivers.

A total of 600 rescuers are expected to join in fighting the fire by Monday night.
