Syria insists on One-China policy
font size

Syria has reiterated that it insists on the one-China policy and understands China's efforts for the reunification.

Syrian Vice-President Mohammad Zuhair Masharka made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with visiting Li Meng, Vice-President of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top advisory body.

Masharka said Syria firmly stood on China's side on the human rights issue and felt indignant at some western countries who always castigated China on the issue.

The Syrian official also showed his appreciation over China's just position of support of the Arab cause.

For his part, Li Meng thanked Syria for its support to China on the issues of Taiwan and human rights, noting that China has made remarkable progress in the reunification since the return of sovereignty of Hong Kong and Macao. He said China supports Syria in restoring the occupied Golan Heights and added that the Middle East peace process should include Syria's participation in order to realize a just, comprehensive and lasting peace.

Li Meng arrived in Syria on Tuesday for a two-day good-will visit at the invitation of the Progressive National Front of Syria.
