China's first guideline on commercial market gives priority to farm products circulation

Markets for consumers products, means of production and agri-products are given top priorities in China's first guideline for commercial market issued on June 9. The importance of the circulation system for agri-products is highlighted in the document.

A smooth, efficient, convenient and safe circulation system for farm products should be in place to cover for the existing one plagued with overlapped chains, high costs and market disorder, the guideline states. Retailing market for farm products should be upgraded. Chain stores, food stores and supermarkets should have more farm products available and contribute one third of total sales of farm products.

Traditional retailing channel of farm products should be improved. Fairs for farm products in an open air should be removed in big and medium sized cities.

Wholesale market and processing businesses for farm products are encouraged to become suppliers to supermarkets, food stores, vegetable fairs in residential communities, and convenience stores. These retailers are also expected to build long-term production-distribution partnership.

Food safety should be guaranteed. Both standard system and monitoring system for the circulation of farm products will be established to ensure the quality and safety.
