Qinshan nuclear power plant lights up Hangzhou Bay

Reporters from People's Daily online visited on June 9 the Qinshan nuclear power plant in Zhejiang Province, the first of its kind in China.

Independently designed, constructed, managed and operated by China, the plant is a demonstration of our builders' dignity and confidence.

Buildings in the plant area are all in white. The main control center, a spacious room, serves as the central part of the plant. Workers dressed in sky-blue are busily doing their job in this spotless, brightly yet softly lit room. Before a huge fan-shaped control table, workers are attentively watching over the plant operation.

The reactor is the heart of the plant, which is wrapped in three-layer protection. What we saw is the third one--the security shell. Standing between the main control center and the reactor is the house of steam turbines which runs a length of 50 or 60 meters. The bellowing steam turbines drive generator sets around at a very high speed, and huge volumes of high-tension electric current are transmitted day and night to urban and rural areas of east China.
