Import, export commodity fair ends with big deals in Kunming

Foreign trade and economic cooperation agreements involving more than 2.06 billion US dollars were signed at the five-day Kunming Import/Export Commodity Fair, that concluded here Thursday.

The total included 939 million dollars worth of import/export orders signed between the province with nearly 20 countries and regions.

Local exports, mainly phosphorus chemicals, nonferrous metals, farm and sideline products, bio-pharmaceuticals, and tobacco, reached 547 million dollars.

And the main local imports, valued at 392 million dollars, are machinery, equipment, ore and steel.

The province signed 431 million dollars of import/export contracts with the 10 ASEAN nations, a big rise compared with the 2003 fair.

The province also introduced 1.07 billion dollars of contractual overseas investment for 52 local projects, which are mainly involved in energy, transportation, road construction, mineral resource development and urban infrastructure improvement.

The province attracted 30 billion yuan (3.6 billion dollars) ofinvestment from elsewhere nationwide for 180 projects.
