Chang Hong's opportunities in Canada and Indonesia
font size

Chong Hong, one of China's biggest four TV makers, found it warmly welcomed by Canadian and Indonesian markets. As a part of its strategy of "going international", Hong Kong is tapping its strategic bases in the two countries.

Jim Feir, Canadian consul general in Guangzhou, expressed his hope in his first trip to Chang Hong that the Chinese TV makers would keep on its interest in the North American market, offer more home appliance for Canadian customers, and found its R&D and marketing base for the North American area through cooperation with Canadian partners on technologies and marketing.

Mr. Feir said his country, with a population of 31 million people, albeit small, had a strong purchasing power and the fast upgrading of the home appliance there created a market with great potential where imported products were dominate. He showed great interest in Chang Hong's unique quality products like DVD TV, DVD+VCR, etc. He believed these innovative products would be very popular in the North American market.

Mr. Feir promised his government would offer more support for Chang Hong in business environment, import and export and distribution channels. He was also interested in cooperation with Chang Hong on innovative electrical source products to tap China's auto power market.

Chang Hong has also won favor of Indonesian market. Chinese Today, an influential Chinese newspaper in Indonesia, covered a series of reports on Chang Hong 's development in the local market.

In a period of 4 years since it made presence in Indonesia, sales of Chang Hong products soared up 50 percent annually. This has aroused much attention from the business and media circles of the country. Chang Hong has seen the true demand and potential business opportunities in developing countries. In fact, Chang Hong has successful experience in localization in Indonesia for its production and operation and made the country an important bridgehead for its entry into the ASEAN market.

Facing the high anti-dumping taxes imposed by US, Chang Hong does not slow down its pace of going international. Instead, it is eyeing more possibilities in the international market. Its business in Europe, Middle East, Commonwealth of Independent States, South-east Asia and Africa are growing rapidly.

Insiders think Chang Hong's cooperation with Canada will not only help it tap into the market there, but also extend into the North American region.
