Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu said Wednesday the smooth development of trade and economic relations between China and the United States needs a stable political environment, and hoped the two sides would increase exchanges and cooperation.

During a meeting with Mike Johanns, governor of Nebraska State of the United States, Hui highly valued the efforts made by Johanns to promote Sino-US relations, especially bilateral trade and economic relations, saying that trade and economic relationship is a basis for the overall relationship between the two countries.

He said the two economies could complement with each other and have big potential for further cooperation.

Johanns said he admired the economic and social achievements the Chinese people had made, adding that his state is willing to expand economic relations with the Chinese.

Johanns is here at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
