Beijing the first venue of world's media event in Asia

The 7th World Media Economics Conference is slated to be held in Beijing in May, 2006. This is the first time that the Asian area and the developing world will be the venue of the event.

As an international organization of authoritativeness in media economics, the Conference has been held six times which all took place in developed countries in Europe and US. China won the sponsorship for the seventh gathering at the sixth meeting.

Professor Zheng Baowei from China Dominant-journalism Development Center of Renmin University serves as director of the preparation committee of the conference. He noted China's media economy has gone through very fast development in recent years and increasingly aroused the world's attention, yet it had a relatively weak voice in the research of this field in the world. "This conference will give the world more idea about China's media industry," he said.

Statistics shows China boasts a prominent media sector in the world in terms of the gross magnitude. It records the largest circulation for daily newspapers and several magazines and the most mobiles and TV sets in the world. The number of radios and net surfers rank the second.
