England sweep Switzerland 3-0
England swept Switzerland 3-0 in the European soccer championship Thursday in Coimbra, Portugal, joining France to top the Group B for at least two hours.

Wayne Rooney's double and a Steven Gerrard goal put a flattering scoreline on dire England.

The 18-year-old Rooney became the European Championship's youngest scorer after he guided a first-half header past Joerg Stiel to round off a flowing England move.

On 75 minutes Rooney scored again to make it 2-0 when the ball landed in the net after coming off the post.

Just seven minutes later Gerrard arrived to score a third when he popped up to scoop home Gary Neville's cross from the right.
