Beijing registers record high in foreign trade in May

The enterprises located in Beijing reported a record high of 7.13 billion US dollars in foreign trade in May, a rise of 39.8 percent on a yearly basis, according to the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.

The total trade volume included 1.56 billion dollars of exports, up 24 percent, and 5.58 billion dollars of imports, up 45 percent.

The exports to Japan reached 970 million dollars from January to May this year, making Japan the leading importer of local commodities, followed by the United States with 930 million dollars.

The five-month exports to the two destinations were both more than 200 million dollars higher than the levels a year ago.

Integrated circuits, and IT products, especially micro-electronics units, were the majority of the local export items increased in the five months.

Total foreign trade in May included 1.975 billion dollars conducted by the firms operated under local commercial administration, up 40.2 percent on a yearly basis.
