Israeli Apache helicopters fired Friday night several missiles targeting two metal workshops in Gaza City, Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses reported.

They said that two Apache helicopters hovered over Gaza City andfired three missiles at a metal workshop in the neighborhood ofZaytoon in southern Gaza City.

The whole neighborhood was sinking into darkness after one ofthe missiles hit the power transmitter in the area, eyewitnessessaid, adding that three huge explosions were heard in theneighborhood.

They said flames of fire and black smoke could be seen in thetargeted area and hundreds of residents rushed to the area to seeksurvivals.

Ambulances and firefighters had arrived at the place, theyadded.

Medical sources reported that dozens of people were in a shockafter the shelling, but no injuries were reported. After the metal workshop was hit by the Apache missiles, thehelicopters came back again and shelled another metal workshop ineastern Gaza City with two missiles, the sources said.

No injuries were reported in both air strikes, but severedamages were caused in the two workshops.

Israel said these workshops were used in manufacturing homemaderockets fired by Palestinian militants against it.

The Israeli air strikes came a few hours after militant membersof the Popular Resistance Committees of the Intifada's armed wingknown as Sallah el Dein Brigades fired a long-range rocket atsouthern Israel.

Israel Radio reported that the Palestinian rocket was a newversion of its kind called Nasser 3, and it hit a house in theIsraeli town of Sderut, lightly injuring one Israeli.
