HK has potential of renewable energy development

Director of Friends of the Earth (HK Mei Ng of Hong Kong) said Friday that both Po Toi and Lamma are potential places for developing wind energy.

For Po Toi, the wind speed was 7 meters per second which is a very favorable condition to generate wind energy, she added at a workshop here.

She said that according to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 2003, around 40 percent of the some two million households expressed that they support and are willing to pay for the development of renewable energy.

Legislative member of Hong Kong Choy So-Yuk said that the government lacks a clear policy of renewable energy development and suggested to learn from the Central Government which has got avery good target on renewable energy.

Choy also suggested that renewable energy facilities should be installed in when establishing new buildings and that research and development funds should be set up to promote such development.
