The 2004 China-US Telecommunications Summit concluded Friday in Chicago with a view to further strengthening telecom cooperation between the two countries.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Chinese Vice-minister of Information Industry Jiang Yaoping said government officials and company leaders of both countries have conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on a wide spectrum of topics during the meeting.
The two-day event had focused on the development trend of information and communications industries, telecommunications reform and regulation, wireless and broadband technology and other issues.
Jiang said that broad consensus has been reached and that the business communities have exchanged extensive information, creating favorable conditions for further cooperation.
"The leverage of each other's advantages for complementarities and, in particular, the relaxed control over US export to China will contribute positively..." he said.
US Deputy Minister of Commerce Phillip Bond said of needs to further expand dialogues in the future.
He said the summit will lay a solid foundation for strengthening bilateral exchange and cooperation in the telecommunications sector.
Several workshops and talks were held for the two sides to exchange views and experiences in a bid to enhance cooperation.
Chinese Minister of Information Industry Wang Xudong held talks with US Commerce Secretary Donald Evans on Friday on the sidelines of the event.
