PNA formulates plan to ensure security after Israeli pullback from Gaza
font size

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has formulated a plan and security measures concerning the Gaza Strip's Jewish settlements to be evacuated by Israel, General security services chief, Abdel-Razeq Majayda, said on June 19.

"There is written plan attached with maps that show how the Jewish settlements will be handed over," Majayda told reporters.

"All we need is an Israeli military withdrawal and security equipments in order to assume our responsibilities." he said.

Asked about Egyptian security experts who are due to train and rehabilitate Palestinian security cadres, Majayda said, "this issue is part of the Egyptian initiative that is still under consideration and negotiations, but the PNA has already welcomed this move."

Egypt has offered to send 150 to 200 officers and security experts to help train a 30,000-strong Palestinian security force after an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon plans to evacuate all 21Jewish settlements from the Gaza Strip and four other isolated enclaves in the northern West Bank by the end of next year and withdraw troops.
