Saudi Arabia warns al-Qaeda of same fate of slain leader
font size

Saudi Arabia warned al Qaeda militants Sunday that if they destabilize the country, they would share the fate of their killed leader unless giving up their fight.

The al-Qaeda group has vowed to renew the "holy war" in the kingdom after their leader Abdulaziz al-Muqrin and three other prominent militants were killed in a shootout with Saudi security forces Friday hours after photos of an American hostage's body and severed head were posted on a Website.

The Mujahideen were continuing the jihad (holy struggle) that they have pledged to God and the killing of their brothers will not weaken their resolve but only increase their determination and commitment, the group said Saturday.

King Fahd Ibn Abdul-Aziz said at the opening of the Saudi consultative Shura Council on Sunday, "We will not allow a corrupt group led by deviant thought to violate the security and stability of this land."

"The real Muslim has nothing to do with these actions and has no sympathy for those who carry them out," the king stressed.

Late Saturday, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz warned the militants that "we tell this deviant group and others that if they do not return to the right path, they will meet the same fate (as Muqrin) or worse."
