Iranian Supreme Leader claims right of nuclear energy
font size

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Monday claimed the country's right to seek nuclear fuel cycle, terming it as "necessary" for people.

"Nuclear fuel cycle is absolutely necessary to the Iranian people," Khamenei told the state television, saying that the nuclear fuel cycle developed by the Iranian people on their own could help Iran avoid dependence on other countries.

Meanwhile, Khamenei dismissed the allegation that Iran was developing atomic weapons under the disguise of nuclear energy research.

Khamenei did not reveal anything about the timetable regarding the uranium enrichment resumption, which was announced by Hassan Rowhani, chief of the Supreme National Security Council, on Saturday in reaction to a recent resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The IAEA resolution, submitted by France, Germany and Beitain and adopted by the agency on Friday, recognized Iran's cooperation but urged more transparency.
