font size

The release was the seventh in seven weeks, according to the US official, who said the prisoners were either set free after serving their time or they were tried and found to have insufficient evidence.

Abu Ghraib prison was the center of a scandal over allegations that American prison guards abused Iraqi detainees.

The US authorities have promised to release or transfer hundreds of prisoners to Iraqi control after the transfer of power on June30.
