Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa said Tuesday that Hong Kong would maintain its stability, prosperity and social auspices so long as Hong Kong people are in an enterprising and unity spirit.
He made the remarks after conferring awards to winners of one of the 12 Dragon Boat Festival races in Hong Kong.
Tung urged Hong Kong people to unite and to work with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government to help encourage the economic growth, improve livelihood of people and create more job opportunities.
Tung said the Dragon Boat Festival races show an enterprising and unity spirit which is essential condition for victory.
He said he collected views of citizens at a downtown area earlier Tuesday and observed a more brisk market.
June 22 is China's traditional Dragon Boat Festival and also a legal holiday in Hong Kong. Tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents went to Hong Kong coastal areas to watch boat races.
The festival has over 2000 years of history in commemoration of an ancient patriotic poet Qu Yuan.
From 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, a total of 12 Dragon Boat Festival races were held in Hong Kong waters, with the participation of hundreds of racing teams. The eldest racer is a 91 years old man.
