Chinese Vice-Premier Huang Ju met with visiting US Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing Wednesday.
The Chinese vice premier told the US visitor that the Chinese government has attached great importance to issues of employment and protection of workers' rights.
To well resolve the issues of employment and social security has a bearing on China's reform, development and stability, and it is also a contribution to the world, Huang said.
China is willing to work together with the United States to increase exchanges and cooperation in the fields of labor and social security, Huang said.
According to Huang, over 19 million laid-off factory workers have been re-employed, thanks to the active policies and measures adopted by the government. China, with a population of 1.3 billion, has 750 million laborers, with two-thirds of them living in rural areas.
Chao also expressed hopes that the United States and China would further strengthen exchanges in the fields of labor and social security, increase mutual trust and cooperation, and make efforts for the development of the bilateral relations.
Also present at the meeting was Zheng Silin, minister of labor and social security.
