Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso has become the latest candidate for the post of European Commission (EC) president and will decide on Saturday whether to accept the offer, Lusa news agency reported on Friday.

The choice of Durao Barroso "has the consensus of leaders of the European Union," Lusa quoted an official as saying.
