Chinese workers lay rails at a section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway at Amdo County, northern Tibet, June 24, 2004. The 1,118-kilometer Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the highest rail route on earth, runs from the city of Golmud in western Qinghai Province to Lhasa, capital of Tibet. It is scheduled to be completed in 2007 at a total investment of 26.2 billion yuan (about 3.1 billion US dollars).
