font size

Since the "September 11" terrorist attack, the international anti-terror campaign has gained momentum, bringing with it big opportunities for police technologies and equipment.

The First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security is one of the good examples, according to Li Kai, a sales manager of the institute.

The institute is a leading player in researching and manufacturing police equipment in China. Last year, it manufactured over 800 X-ray scanners and exported some 100.

Over 60 Chinese companies and 80 overseas firms, from 20 countries and regions, brought their exhibits to the Second China International Exhibition on Police Technologies and Equipment.

The show, which only opens to professionals and media, is being held at the Beijing Exhibition Hall, in central Beijing from June 23 to 26.

Among the exhibitors, there are some leading car manufacturers in the world or in China, such as "Mercedes Benz", "BMW", "BeijingHyundai", "Shanghai Volkswagen", and "Dongfeng Citroen".

"Since so many big brands are present here, so we must join in," said Sun Yanan, with the sales section of the Beijing Hyundai Motor Company.

Chinese and foreign companies have brought exhibits including telecom equipment, helicopter, anti-riot vehicles, and police costumes and weapons. Five foreign helicopter companies have invited visitors to ride on their copters, according to the website of the Ministry of Public Security.

In the crowded exhibition hall, the Beit Alfa Technologies Ltd.,from Israel, displayed their computerized squirt gun. Reuven Canfi, the company's general manager, said the company manufactures about200 squirt guns annually. Chinese police have bought four squirt guns from the firm. "They are powerful but do not hurt people," said the general manager.
