S.Korea, DPRK to hold working-level military talks

South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold working-level militarytalks Tuesday to follow up on previous bilateral agreements to ease tensions on their sea and land borders, the S. Korean Ministry of National Defense said Monday.

Colonel-grade officers from the two sides are to meet in the South Korean border city of Paju, Gyeonggi Province, about 40 kilometers north of Seoul, on Tuesday for follow-up discussions oneliminating propaganda facilities in military demarcation line (MDL) areas and preventing accidental armed clashes at their disputed western sea border, the South Korean News Agency quoted aministry spokesman as saying.

"At Tuesday's talks, both parties will discuss results of the elimination of MDL propaganda broadcast facilities and signboards,launched on June 16. Then they will discuss the next tension-easing measures in the MDL areas," the spokesman said.

In the previous working-level talks held on June 12, the two sides agreed to completely dismantle all MDL propaganda facilitiesin three stages by August 15.

The officers will also discuss continued implementation of inter-Korean agreements on avoiding armed clashes in the West Sea border, including agreement on inter-Korean radio communications, he said. Such agreements were reached during a meeting of general-grade officers in early June.
