Mubarak recovers from surgery
font size

Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak has been recovering from a back surgery in Germany with two satellite TV programs accompanying him: soccer match and political news, officials said on Monday.

Mubarak asked for the satellite TV links in his room of a Munich hospital, Germany, so that he can watch an Arabic channel covering the European soccer championships in Portugal, said Guido Quanz, manager of the Orthozentrum private clinic.

The 76-year-old leader had closely followed the Euro 2004 soccer matches and had expressed his regret for Germany's elimination in the group match, said Egyptian Health Minister Mohammed Awad Afifi Tag Eddin, who accompanied Mubarak in Germany.

Mubarak was also interested in the political news on Egyptian television, Quanz said.

Mubarak was in good spirits and took a short stroll, German News Agency DPA on Sunday quoted doctor Heinz-Michael Mayer as saying.

Mubarak arrived at the clinic on June 21 for a slipped-disc treatment.

Last November, Mubarak suspended his speech before the parliament due to a severe cold.
