Maltese president pledges to stick to one-China policy

Maltese President Edward Fenech Adami said Monday that his government would stick to the one-China policy and make efforts to develop and strengthen the friendly cooperation with China, news reaching Rome from Malta's capital of Valetta said.

Bilateral relations have witnessed positive development since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972, Adami said when meeting with Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the People's Government of China's Tibet Autonomous Region and leader of a Tibetan delegation now visiting Malta.

While Puncog hoped that his visit would further promote the friendly cooperation between China and Malta, he also briefed the Maltese president on the rapid economic development and continuous improvement of people's living conditions in Tibet.

Puncog also held a meeting with Maltese Minister of Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech and the two sides agreed to further promote cooperation between Tibet and Malta in tourism and culture.
