Chinese-Filipino businessman arrested, not kidnapped: police
font size

A Chinese-Filipino businessman was arrested for unknown reason by police, not kidnapped by three gunmen in the northern Philippines as a local TV channel earlier reported, police said Wednesday.

Vidal Querol, Central Luzon police director, clarified that Chinese-Filipino businessman Johnny Sun Sy, who was reported by the ABS-CBN news channel to be kidnapped on Tuesday in San Fernando, Pampanga, was actually arrested by agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Anti-Organized Crime Division.

The rumor was generated because the NBI agents failed to coordinate with the Pampanga police about their arrest mission.

Querol, however, did not say the reason for Sun's arrest.

According to the earlier report, the 38-year-old owner of supermarket was captured at a public market and forced to go in a car, which was traced to a city in Metro Manila.
