China's top legislator meets Fijian PM
font size

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, met with visiting Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase Wednesday.

Wu proposed that parliaments of the two countries increase contact. He also expressed thanks and appreciation for the one-China policy of the Fijian government.

Qarase arrived in Beijing Monday for a six-day working visit to China, the second of the prime minister since 2002.

The Fijian prime minister said he believes his current visit to China will further promote Fiji-China relations, which he described as good to peoples of the two countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made a four-point proposal on strengthening China-Fiji relations in agriculture, forestry, fishing, tourism and other areas.

Aside from Beijing, Qarase will also visit Xi'an and Guangzhou cities.
