Taiwan financial expert works in mainland purely for professional reason: spokesman
font size

Taiwanese financial expert Linin Day's membership in the International Advisory Council (IAC) under the mainland's securities watchdog is a matter of pure professional exchange, said a mainland spokesman.

The political connotations attached to the affair by some parties in Taiwan are confusing, Li Weiyi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a regular press conference Wednesday in Beijing.

Answering a question raised by a reporter from Taiwan, Li explained the IAC of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) is a non-decision-making advisory body. It holds one or two conferences each year to solicit suggestions and opinions on the development of capital and securities markets of the mainland.

Linin Day's membership will facilitate the exchanges and cooperation of securities business and capital market on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, Li said.

Linin Day used to work as a securities regulator and finance official with the Taiwan authorities, which ban retired officials to be employed by official organs of the mainland.
