Heatwave hits Guangzhou

Influenced by subtropical high pressure and Typhoon Mindulle, Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province and one of the major economic and cultural centers in south China, has been hit by a sustained heatwave since June 28.

The temperature monitored by Wushan ground meteorological observatory of Guangzhou rose to 38.9 degrees Celsius, a record high, by 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Guangzhou City Meteorological Observatory has issued notice warning local residents of high temperature for three days.

According to the forecast given by the municipal meteorologicalobservatory, the hot weather will last in this southern Chinese city till Friday when the high temperature will come down slightly.

In the meantime, the eye of Typhoon Mindulle, a Korean name fordandelion, moved eastward to sea wasters in South China Sea from late Wednesday after having passed by the offshore areas near Shantou City, Guangdong Province.

Typhoon Mindulle will move further eastward to approach the seaareas to the south of neighboring Fujian Province and may seriously affected these areas, said the Guangzhou municipal meteorological observatory.
