HK's stability is common aspiration of whole Chinese people: official
font size

Maintaining social stability, promoting the good situation of economic recovery and further improving the livelihood of people are priorities for the happiness and well-being of Hong Kong residents, as well as the common aspiration of the whole Chinese people, a leading official of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong said late Thursday night.

He said, "We would like to join the Hong Kong people from all walks of life in making unremitting efforts to achieve the objective."

The official made the remarks in response to a rally attended by some citizens earlier Thursday.

The official said that in accordance with the Basic Law of Hong Kong, local residents have enjoyed the right and freedom of assembly, of procession and of demonstration since the return of Hong Kong to the motherland seven years ago.

However, he pointed out, some posters and slogans put up by some organizers of the rally are improper and go against the common wishes of Hong Kong residents for seeking stability, development and harmony.

He urged related organizations and persons to comply with the common aspiration of Hong Kong people and play a constructive role in maintaining Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.
