China sets appraisal center for identification products
font size

China saw the establishment of a center for the examination and appraisal of identification and authentication products and technologies on June 24, constructed by the Institute of Automation, Chinese academy of Sciences.

Identification technologies developed rapidly in recent years given its importance. The government has issued a series of policies encouraging advancement in related fields, which caused a boost of enterprises engaged in identification and authentication products with their number exceeding 1,000. While a sharp contrast to the prosperity is the backwardness of appraisal institutions. The lack of an appraisal system caused disorders in related fields, making users unable to evaluate their identification products to be adopted in a fair and objective way. Meanwhile, products fail to meet corresponding security standards entered high-end market and caused hidden perils. As high as 30 percent systems of e-business or e-government installed domestically are reportedly defected in their core identification technologies, which posed a grave threat to the nation's financial security and state secrets.

Inauguration of the center, a state level authority in identifying biological features, marks the initial founding of the country's supervision and appraisal mechanism on identification technologies of biological features.
