Putin: Russia-US partnership benefits both

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the partnership between Russia and the United States will benefit both countries.

Putin made the remarks in his congratulatory message sent to his US counterpart George W. Bush on the US Independence Day celebration held on Sunday.

He said the two countries face "large-scale joint work to strengthen global stability and security, and to counter the

terrorist threat and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."

Russia strongly opposed to the US-led war in Iraq that toppled former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein last year, but the two countries have been trying to mend their soured ties.
