"It's amazing that so many people are interested in world heritages," said Yang Yan, a staff member working for a world heritage exhibition being held in Suzhou, eastern Jiangsu Province.
The exhibition, sponsored by the Chinese committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), displayed large numbers of pictures, models and written and video materials about the 754 world natural and cultural heritage sites inscribed on the World Heritage list before the ongoing 28th session of the World Heritage Committee.
Despite heavy rains, over 800 people still paid visits to the exhibition on Saturday. About 2,500 visitors came to the exhibition respectively on Sunday and Monday.
"Everyone should know something about the world heritage, which is the common wealth shared by all humans," said a lecturer with the surname of Liu at the Suzhou Science and Technology Institute.
He brought his 11-year-old daughter to the exhibition.
Xue Weixuan, 89, said he was quite satisfied to learn so much about heritages around the world at one time.
A college lecturer with the surname of Zuo, together with his pregnant wife, came to the exposition from Shanghai. "We want to have our baby educated with knowledge on world heritage before it is born," he said.
People in Beijing, Shanghai, Henan, Liaoning, Shandong and Xinjiang have indicated through phone calls that they would send visiting groups to the exhibition, said Yang Yan.
After the conclusion of the exhibition on July 20, the showcases will be kept at a world heritage research and education center in Suzhou permanently, Yang said.
