29 killed in bus accident in IndiaTwenty-nine persons, including four women, died and 16 others injured Monday when a bus in which they were traveling fell into a deep gorge in Almora district of Uttaranchal state in north India. The bus belonging to the Kumaon Motor Operators Union was going from Pithoragarh to Haldwani in Nainital district when the mishap occurred, the Press Trust of India quoted Almora Superintendent of Police Deepak Jyoti Ghildiyal as saying. Ghildiyal said that the bus was carrying nearly 45 passengers and added that at a sharp turn the driver lost control over it due to some mechanical failure. Following this, he said the bus fell into a deep gorge. The injured persons were admitted to the base hospital in Almora where they were stated to be out of danger, Ghildiyal said.
