Chinese government issues emergent notice to prevent bird flu spread
font size

The State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on Wednesday issued an emergent notice, requiring all localities to take measures for prevention of bird flu spread.

The national bird flu reference laboratory confirmed on Tuesday that the latest death of chickens in east China's Anhui Province was caused by the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu virus.

The case happened at a chicken farm of the Juchao District, Chaohu City, east Anhui Province.

No poultry and related products are allowed to be exported from Anhui Province, and local quality quarantine departments must monitor more closely the slaughtering and processing of poultry, and prevent poultry and related products from leaving bird flu-affected areas, according to the notice.

Strict measures must be taken to ensure the quality of those poultry products exported to Hong Kong and Macao, the notice says.
