Most Americans responded favorably to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's choice of Senator John Edwards as his running mate, polls released on Wednesday showed.
A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll showed 54 percent of registered voters surveyed had a favorable impression of Edwards against 16 percent who had an unfavorable impression. Sixty-four percent thought he was either an excellent or pretty good choice for vice president.
The poll was taken after Kerry picked first-term senator Edwards from North Carolina for the No. 2 slot on the Democratic ticket on Tuesday.
The two are expected to be officially nominated at the Democratic Party's national convention in late July, to challenge incumbent President George W. Bush in the November elections.
In a CBS News poll, 53 percent respondents said they were satisfied with the choice of Edwards and 19 percent said they wereenthusiastic, against 12 percent who said they were dissatisfied.
A NBC News poll, however, found that 63 percent of those canvassed said they did not think the choice of Edwards would makea difference in their vote.
The polls' margins of errors were about 5 percent.
