More than 300 registered local specialities under protection in China
font size

More than 300 products with designation of origin or geographic indication have been registered and protected so far in China, such as Longjing Tea, Shaoxing Wine, Panjing Rice, ect. About 80 percent of them are farm produces of which prices are 15 percent to 20 percent higher than they were before registration.

Geographic indication is used to mark the geographic origin of a product. As it carries information on the natural and human endowment of the area where a product is from, most of the products under the protection are farm produces.

Officials from the state administration in charge of quality inspection said China has taken a late start for this work. The country will have more cooperation and exchange with the rest of the world on this field to improve the protection system for such products.
