A software development team backed by the Chinese government is due to unveil plans for a Web search system today, CRIENGLISH.com said in a report.

Named Acoona, the search system of China Communication Corporation is a joint effort by China's information ministry and the former head of Compaq Computer.

The new search engine can locate 30 million businesses worldwide and can mathematically calculate links between search terms and words with similar meanings in order to increase the likelihood of finding relevant results.

Acoona uses so-called artificial intelligence software that can be trained to locate related information.

It doesn't rely on matching search in keywords the way databases like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft do.
