The bus carrying a group of journalists from both sides of the Taiwan Straits overturned Thursday night in Hami of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, killing one and injuring eight others.

The deceased was a driver from east China's Fujian Province. A cameraman from Taiwan was seriously injured, according to sources with the Xinjiang Office of Taiwan Affairs.

The accident occurred at 10:10 p.m. Thursday when the reporters were on the way to Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, from Dunhuang in Gansu Province .

The group was composed of reporters from 16 news media. They kicked off the journey from Fujian and planned to end it in Xinjiang by means of auto rally from June 17 to July 12.
