More than 1,700 houses inundated in flood in DPRK

More than 1,700 houses in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) were inundated by a flood caused by Typhoon Mindulle on July 4 and 5, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Thursday.

But there have been no reports of casualties or property loss so far.

Besides the houses, hundreds of public and production buildings were damaged, said the KCNA, noting that several roads, dams, ships, pumping facilities, power transmission networks and telephone lines were submerged or destroyed in some areas.

At least 10,000 hectares of arable land were flooded, buried and washed away, it said.

"Damage was more serious in Kangwon and South Hwanghae provinces than other areas. On July 4 and 5 rainfall averaged 290 millimeters rising to 334 millimeters at maximum, in Kangwon Province," said the KCNA.
