China names Olympic artistic gym team

Chinese Gymnastics Association announced Friday the artistic gymnastics lineup for the Athens Olympic Games in August.

The 18-strong team includes six reserves and the starting lineup is almost the same as in last year's world championships.

Of the 12 gymnasts who collected 5 gold medals in Anaheim for China to top the medal table, only Zhang Yufei was left out because of injury and Kang Xin was put in the reserves. They were replaced by Cheng Fei and Lin Li in the women's squad.

The men's team is spearheaded by double Olympic champion Li Xiaopeng, who has two difficult maneuvers named after him.

The Chinese team would fly to Paris at the end of this month and train there before leaving for Athens.
